In reply to Jay. A Greek mythology class led by a Harvard trained professor must have been very interesting indeed! I am glad you overrode your counselor's "nuts" response to follow your bliss. It definitely requires practice and guts to do what you feel is right for yourself from the inside out. Thank-you for being an example of this!

Thanks for the shout out to Steve, Alison. Talk about making a splash following your inner voice! I believe his commencement speech is a modern classic. I can relate in a small way to his calligraphy class experience. In college I took a class on Greek mythology. It didn’t fill any requirement. My counselor thought I was nuts. The instructor was Harvard trained and I barely got a C. But it was one of the best experiences of my college career. “Follow your bliss.” as Joseph Campbell succinctly put it. We all need to do more of that.
I hope more and more people are inspired to do this by the examples set by folks like you and Steve. Shine on!

In reply to Jan. I agree. Can you imagine being fired from the company you started? Talk about heart and perseverance. Jobs also modeled the power to move through disappointment and defeat. Another great lesson for us all. :-)

It is people like Steve Jobs who create quantum leaps in the world for all to enjoy. It is being “foolish” and taking chances that make it happen. What Steve Jobs said about following your heart has the power to unleash the potential each and every one of us has. Thanks for the warm and thoughtful article.
