I “love” my life coach. Helene, my life coach, is a smart, fun, and focused woman. She is a master at drawing out the best in people. She recently sent me an email with an exercise called “My Best Summer Ever.” I found the exercise so powerful that I am sharing it as this week’s featured Live Inspired blog post.
“My Best Summer Ever” is about taking time to write out 25 of the top things you would like to do this summer to make it your best summer ever. By using the combination of focus and intention, a mundane summer can be transformed into a meaningful summer.
I must admit when I first received the email, with the request to fill out “My Best Summer Ever,” I put it on my to do list with a slight feeling of annoyance. Adding one more thing to my to-do list is not my favorite thing to do. However, I trust Helene and find when I get out of my own way and follow her advice good things come my way. This was no exception. When I actually got to filling out the list I was delighted to discover I felt energized, enlivened, and empowered by creating it.
“My Best Summer Ever” list is now framed and positioned next to my computer where I can continuously look at it and be inspired to take action. I highly encourage you to take 30 minutes to focus on creating your best summer ever list.
As Helene put it, “Summer is a perfect season to create more fun and exciting adventures that infuse your life with inspiration.” Here’s how to create your list.
1. Ask yourself this question: “What would you love to do this summer?” Would you love to go on a surf sabbatical? Travel to a foreign country? Attend Zumba classes every week? Would you like to loose 20 pounds? Take the next step to changing your career? Go on an adventure with your favorite friends or family?
2. Create a theme, which will help you create focus. Here are a few examples: Financial Freedom Summer, Summer of Self-Care, Summer of Outdoor Adventure. My personal theme is: My Financial Income Increases Exponentially While I Am Having Fun and Relaxing.
3. Now make a fun list of your top 25 things you would love to experience and do this summer. Your list can include simple things such as taking a weekly walk with your best friend, make one new recipe that you have always wanted to make, receive a 90 minute deep tissue massage every month during the summer. Get the point? This is your list. What makes you sizzle? What makes you smile from ear to ear? Make your list.
I hope you enjoy this intentional exercise as much as I did. If you have any fears, resistance, or limiting beliefs that show up around why you can’t have your dream list, call me for power-coaching, which will move you forward.
